The Palace was built in 1750 by the will of King Charles of Bourbon (1716-1788) as the ideal center of the new kingdom of Naples, now autonomous and detached from the Spanish kingdom.
The Royal Palace, one of the largest and most majestic buildings of Italy, a masterpiece of the architect Luigi Vanvitelli , was built between 1752-1774 or the Royal Family.
There are two main Apartments: the "New Apartment" which was completed in the 19thcenthury and the "Old Apartment" with its 18th century decorations, meant for the Royal Prince.
The adjacent park, with a scenic series of fountains and waterfalls and the beautiful English Garden, was built at the behest of Queen Maria Carolina of Austria.
The "Reggia di Caserta", along with Versailles, is one of the most beautiful residences in the world.
